What Is PCI/DSS Standards Compliance?

PCI/DSS is a security program developed by American Express, Discover Financial Services, JCB International, MasterCard Worldwide, and Visa Inc. to safeguard and prevent the loss and or theft of cardholder information. PCI Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), provides an actionable framework for developing a robust payment card data security process — including prevention, detection and appropriate reaction to security incidents. The size of your business will determine the specific compliance requirements that must be met. Enforcement of merchant compliance is managed by the individual payment brands.

Who Has To Comply With PCI DSS?

Any and all merchants and organizations, regardless of size or number of transactions, that accept, transmit, and/or store any cardholder data must comply with PCI/DSS. As a merchant it’s your responsibility to keep your customers’ cardholder data safe and provide secure payment options. Failure to do so could result in thousands of dollars in fines levied against your company.
